Ubuntu
Ubuntu
Ubuntu is a word in Zulu and other Bantu languages that means “humanity”. Long ago it became an African philosophy meaning “I am who I am because of who we all are”. It’s a collection of values and practices about being and living authentically. While there can be nuances in its use across different ethnic groups, Ubuntu generally speaks to the interconnectedness of all of us on this planet. No one exists completely in isolation, but as part of a greater community. Each of our actions has an effect on the world.
“Ubuntu does not mean that people should not enrich themselves. The question therefore is: Are you going to do so in order to enable the community around you to be able to improve?”
Nelson Mandela
