For Good
For Good
The final number of the Tony Award Winning Musical and fourth longest running show on Broadway, Wicked, For Good is a reflection of the journey, Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good and how each of them have had an impact on each other and each other's lives.
The music and lyrics are written by Stephen Schwartz, who has given us hit musicals Godspell and Pippin, as well as lyrics to a number of successful films including Pochantas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Prince of Egypt, Enchanted, and Disenchanted. He has won three Grammy and Academy Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards. Schwartz in 2012 worked with San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and “Testimony” was released with music composed by Schwartz and lyrics deriving from Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better Project”.
The iconic roles of Elphaba and Glinda have been played by many including Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth originating the roles. The roles have moved from stage to screen with title roles being portrayed by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. The second and final installment of the film releases this November and even includes the title of the song in the title of the movie; “Wicked: For Good”.
As the lyrics say, “Because I knew you, I have been changed For Good.”
