About Us
Previously known as The Capital Pride Singers, Albany Voices of Pride was formed in January 1995 by a group of people who responded to a call in The Community newsletter. AVOP was organized as a program of the Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council, now the Pride Center of the Capital Region. From that small group of 19, AVOP has grown to over 50 members and is one of only a few mixed voices LGBTQIAA+ choruses in the country. AVOP became its own non-profit in 2000.
Our Mission Statement
Albany Voices of Pride’s mission is to use the universal language of music as a tool to lead, inspire, teach, and serve the surrounding community of the Capital District and beyond. Through our unique blend as an all voices choir of LGBTQ+ singers and allies standing together, we look to create harmonious sound in order to share our history and to build a more inclusive and diverse community for future generations.
