The Village

"The Village" was written to support and empower the transgender community. He was inspired by two trans teenagers he met on tour and felt moved to create this song with the increasing hostility towards trans youth that was happening at the time. It was composed on February 23rd, 2017, the day federal protections for trans students in U.S. public schools were removed. This song reflects his desire to connect to his community as an openly gay man, to combat the hate that trans people everywhere were increasingly getting, and to convey that "there's nothing wrong with you". It is a song that calls out that whatever the journey, everyone deserves a place to belong, to take up space, and be accepted into their communities with the love and kindness they deserve.
