Queer-a-Copia
Abundance in Harmony
The title of this concert Queer-a-copia may invoke images of a cornucopia. We appreciate that analogy as it relates to the LGBTQIA+ community having an abundance we want to celebrate. An abundance of elements important to a healthy existence, friendships, community and gratitude for them.
We are not considering this a friendsgiving concert as associating the theme with the Thanksgiving holiday would be a disservice to members of our chorus who are indigenous Americans or have friends and family who belong to those communities. To many people in these communities Thanksgiving is a reminder of the brutality of the colonization of the Americas by European countries. The loss of life, through disease, slavery and massacre. The loss of land, through conquest and appropriation. The loss of culture, through forced assimilation and elimination.
We can celebrate our own vibrant community and still up-lift everyone in our community! We value friendship, the value of building a healthy and diverse community, and we are grateful for what we have!
